Gemma Ledden is an emerging Knitwear designer who graduated from Middlesex University in 2012 with a BA Honors in Fashion and Textiles specializing in Knitwear. Gemma grew up in the seaside village of Old Colwyn in North Wales this is where her love for fashion really got going, after finishing school she went onto college and studied BTEC National Diploma in Design. In 2008 Gemma moved down to London to study Textiles at London Metropolitan University this is where she learnt how to knit. After completing the first year she moved onto study Fashion and Textiles at Middlesex University.
Her designs are all knitted on a domestic knitting machine; she makes all the garments herself from start to finish from designing, sampling, pattern cutting, fashioning, knitting the final garment and then linking.
Gemma’s work is influenced by texture and form. She uses traditional and new techniques to create knitwear that hasn’t been done before. She uses natural yarns such as cotton with unusual materials like wire to create 3D forms.
In February 2011 Gemma had the opportunity to do some work experience for fashion designer Jasper Garvida were she was able to produce two pieces of Knitwear for his Autumn/ Winter Fashion show at London Fashion Week. She was also able to work back stage at London fashion week and as a style assistant at Jasper's photo shoot.
